My ignite talk blog responses

My blog response comments is from Ignite talk with Heather Mallak.

Heather Mallak discussed many thing from instincts, ingenuity technology as a tool, trends and how these subjects intersect.

I proposed two questions from her speech which i felt was important and stuck our in my mind which was the main ingredient to Heather’s speech. The Feedback on these two questions from Students in my AC 230 class was exactly the answers i was looking for when i proposed the questions. The first question was how could using your teeth be used as a tool? The second questions was why do you think Heather feels our bodies is the key to ingenuity which applies ideas to meet challenges?

Feedback from first question(how could using your teeth be used as a tool?)

basically in similar answers students responded with before we had tools such as scissors , our teeth was used to cut and to tear into things like food plastic so us as humans had to use or teeth as tools.

Feedback from 2nd question( why do you feel our bodies is the key to ingenuity which applies ideas to meet challenges?)

the general answer from students is that anything we create comes from our hands , our minds to formulate the concepts. and basically our whole body goes through the creative process in order to manifest the idea into reality .

These responses in general is what i was looking for from my questions because it was the main point in Heather’s speech in order to connect how we can connect technology as an extension of our body with education and keeping up with the times/trends.

step in the name of school

As a k-12 prospective teacher keeping the students interest, while learning, and being innovative is quite challenging. My video blog is a spin off from an already existing dancing game which as a prospective physical educator keeps the students active while challenging them academically in school. How the activity would be played is that there is 9 designated box areas on the card board and the students have a chance to write down the topic or subjects in school which are least favorable for them. upon writing the subjects down they would place the cute out squares onto the cardboard then i would number each square 1 to 9. While the music is playing or i count down from 30 on a stop watch i will call out the numbered square to be stepped on in a rapid pace to keep students physically active and focusing on the next box to step in. If they make a mistake of stepping in the wrong box 3 or more times, it would be mandatory for students to write a 3 page paper on the subject they will have to improve upon. If they make a mistake in stepping in wrong box 2 times students will have to write a page in a half, and 1 time they will only have to explain to me for 5 minutes how they will improve upon the subject they selected as the least favorable in school.

let me know what you guys think of the concept…..

Igniting Conversation About the Future of Education

In AC 230 class today i was given a video to watch From The digital media and learning conference and my assigned speaker to watch was Heather Mallack.

Heather Mallack in overview discussed Instinct, Ingenuity, technology and tools, trends, and how these factors intersect.

Heather Mallack is is a multimedia artist and media professional who participates in show, works of self expression, and collaborations which display how we can view ourselves and impact the world around us. She is based in pittsburgh and work with organizations such as GMSP which is involved in DML community.

During Heather’s speech there were several quotes i have found interesting in which i would like my fellow bloggers to weigh in on

She quoted ” teeth came before scissors so as a tool as a natural extension of your body thats what you’re utilizing… you may use your teeth as a tool”

what do you think she means by this statement and why

she also said that ingenuity is the process of applying ideas to solve or meet challenges …thats what we use our bodies for

do you think we use our bodies as tools in order to solves challenges faced in reality?

Super Saiyan 4 for students

We get inspiration from various people and as young people and students we look to super heroes who we look up to and would like to be in order to face and overcome obstacles which come our way. From Batman out smarting bad guys saving the day, super man and his strength and speed defeating practically anybody and other heroes who overcome obstacles and prevail. As a student school is an obstacle we must overcome in order to be successful in life so take an image of your self and edit it so you can create yourself as your own super heroe or a super heroe that already exists. have fun with this explain in your picture how this super heroe will over come challenges in school and how the use of your super powers will help you. create a mini story explaining the image.

I photoshop my picture @ lunapic.com where it is the easiest format of photoshopping pics.

super saiyan

As a student i face many challenges throughout my studies. Instead of letting these obstacles over take me and hinder me in school i take that fear, doubt, anger, and channel it to destroy anything in my way which may prevent me to do well in school. In my super saiyan Goku form i can achieve anything. First pic is me fully powered up in dragon ball z and the 2nd pic is me slightly powering down returning back to normal.

Students will create stories such as this one of themselves as a super heroe or any creative piece which will tell a story.

Can you catch the tune of this song

This is one of the 1st songs i have learned musically this is an assignment

Make Music Damn it that i have done drom the ds106 website

i got this video from Youtube and i used this particular video because it is a musical song that everyone can relate to and it may not be as creative but it hit close to home with those who has grown up and watched a developmental show such as seasame street.

How i can incorporate this into a class is by telling students to create or use a video which they can relate to musically growing up and motivates them. This assignment will have students connect music which motivates them or helped i their developmental process then explain it.

This is the same reason why i have selected seasame street because almost everyone has grown up to the television show and the theme song is a musical peace which can bring you back to one of the first musical songs i have learned.

New face of money

The new face of money

I worked on the ‘Create a New You‘ visual assignment from the ds106 assignment bank. It asks you to:

Take an existing photo of yourself, and edit in a way to give the picture a different look. Color your hair, change your eyes, whiten your teeth, get a “tan”, etc.

This portrait is a new me as you can seei am the new face of the 100 dollar bill. I did this picture doctoring through a website which i don’t remember but if i can find the website i will tag in the post. what inspired me to do this is the idea of having money and embodying being the face of money because i have so much of it.

How i can incorporate this into the classroom setting as a teacher is to have students envision themselves in he future where they see themselves or how they would see themselves and photoshop a picture of themselves or a picture which would show their future success or endeavors.

how i created this picture was to take an original photo of my self then i uploaded it to a website then i played around with the background and setting then incorporated the 100 dollar bill frame on this doctored setting already

educational blog finding

searching for various educational blogs which will give me ideas in helping me become a better teacher i came across a blog which i thought was interesting. i came across

More Focus on Psychological Impact of Digital Media?

by Ian Quillen which it debated whether or not the incorporation of technology helps or hinders children ‘s learning process. An examined study of technology usage with young children shows obsession through the course of  the years and learning process.  Another experience from Paul Barnwell suggest that educational technology has overstimulated and distracted students. As a prospective teacher I would incorporate the technology in moderation in the classroom setting that way i wouldn’t always be dependent on it and i can give students a mental break from consuming their minds with the technology.

The focus as a teacher is to draw that distinction between using the technology to teach and for cognitive learning and adverse over consumption with the use of the technology.a blogger by the name of wilfredomorell suggest as a techer it is not the technology itself which affect students mental health but the content which leads to the adverse affect which is the video games and other noneducational endeavors associated with the technology. As a teacher it is up to me to monitor the content which takes place within my class so that is something i have to be mindful of what technology students are using .

I was interested in this piece because it critically examined technology and how it incorporated into education. It gave insight on what lead to adverse affects in students learning and cognitive function in over consumption, overstimulation and the negatives of overexposure to video games. This will help me with getting my connection with peers because based on those experience i can give feedback to whether their experiences are the same as mine and what improvements can be made if those experiences encountered can be improved.

My Vision of College Today

Using Technology to improve learning

My vision of college today incorporate technology into the classroom. Technology is the wave of the newer generation and is critical in guiding the learning experience for students because most of their lives evolve around technology and so does the society that we live in.

students lives are driven by technology so why not their education

Using technology in the classroom gives students a visualization where they can follow along with the teacher as they are going over the material. In some instances this is almost like one on one with the students because as she is going over the material, students can see and ask questions regarding what they are seeing and other students who may have similar questions can follow along.

Check out this futuristic vision on how i see vision college today…  you will enjoy it

Out with the old dusty chalk board and chalk and in with the new interactive whiteboard… so now students can feel like their learning is interactive and is guided by their own intrigue. This will encourage more learning and help teachers teach and guide student’s knowledge of the subject.

Bridging the gap in education with technology

In todays progressive society in technology teachers implement technology into the classes which gives students a practical experience in the course curriculum.Through technology teachers guide students learning instead of telling students what they should learn. students learn from critical thinking and how the topic relates back to themselves. Technology in the class breaks from the traditional setting of education because there are more tools to model what students should be looking for within the topic.

In the article ” A Survey of Surgical Simulation: Applications, technology, and Education

Liu, A & et al. (2003) states ” Simulators provide a structured learning experience, permitting practice without danger to patients, and simulators facilitate the teaching of rare or unusual cases… simulators can also be used to provide an objective assessment of skills (pg.599). Technology can assimilate real life situations in learning friendly environment. Students skills can be  assessed with how proficient they solve a problem or complete lesson objectives.
